While setting up my server computer, I finally understood why Linux fans love the terminal, it’s fun and gives you the feeling of being an old-school movie hacker! Which got me thinking; could this idea work in a game? So I gave it a try, and while it could definitely work for some PC games, the big issue was controllers. The system just can't translate well and in today's games, controler support is a must! Anyway, my prototype is shown below. #unity #gamedev #indiegame #developer Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://lnkd.in/eTJJ6VCD
They say, "A penny saved is a penny earned," and that couldn’t be more true while job hunting. So, when my car sprung an oil leak, I saved some cash by fixing it myself—fitting the part and even making the tool I needed! While working on a new unity project, I decided to spice up the UI with some effects. I created a few scripts to apply these effects. 1) Hover effect which scales or increase’s the length of elements. 2) Slide transition, an effect that slides elements in and out of view. 2) Collapse, an effect which shrinks or expands a UI section in and out of existence. While these effects may be simple, they bring the menu to life, giving the user a sense of feedback from their interactions. #unity #unitydeveloper #gamedev #indiedev
A few years ago, I was wondering how to switch up the normal mechanics of the FPS genre, as I oftern found FPS games share a very similar play style. What I come up with, was altering the players movement by confining them to the seat of a wheelchair. What does this change. - Players cant jump, limiting the positions players can enter. - The Players turning is confined to the direction of the wheelchair. This means players have to manually turn once they need to aim past the confines of the wheel chairs forward direction. - The players also cannot move left and right, making it much harder to dodge bullets, the left and right now turns the wheelchair Instead. - Another main difference is recoil control, the player is controlling the electric wheelchair with one hand, so the recoil is immense, even pushing the wheelchair backwards. Making recoil control one of the main skills a player requires. Most people told me the idea was silly but determined to make something different,I followed it through and it certainly makes for a different player experience from the norm. Yesterday I published a new update, mainly polishing the user interface, to bring the game closer to its final release. So feel free to play the game as early access on steam. https://lnkd.in/eajFF4Ge https://lnkd.in/eh9Z3WN5 #unity #gamedev #gamemechanics #FPS #graduategamedev #multiplayer #games
#QuestionForGroup I recently graduated and I am finding it impossible to find a games job. Due to there being far more opportunities i have started to apply for software jobs. However, due to my games focused degree, Im not making it anywhere close to an interview. Can anyone recommend any frameworks to learn, perhaps on udemy that might help get me closer to a job. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.
I returned home today to a wonderful surprise in the letterbox. I'm thrilled to share that I have been awarded the FDM Group Prize for the Best Development Project by a final-year student at the University of Brighton. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all my course tutors for their support throughout my studies. A special thanks goes to Almas Baim for consistently pushing me to exceed my limits and achieve more.
During my second year of university I created a web based game called Cave crawler using JavaScript and phaser 3. I recently had the thought “what would it take to convert this game to mobile”, this is where I stumbled upon Apache Cordova, a powerful tool which alows you to convert websites into native applocations for android and iOS. The next step was to add mobile friendly controls such as joysticks aswell as some new graphics, making the game suitable for the different screen sizes of phones. Another addition I made was the use of a google play plugin, allowing for the use of google play leaderboards instead of my basic SQL based one. The game still has a few bugs but nothing too major, so it is now available on google play. If anyone gives it ago be sure to give me your opinions, it’s not my best work but i feel the gameplay is quite fun and addictive.

It’s a bitter sweet feeling to finally finish university. It’s exciting to finally be free to start my career but I’m certainly going to miss everyone I’ve met along the way, especially my ultimate team, Alex Moore and Poppy Eyres, I hope life brings us together as a team once again.
Thrilled to share that I have been awarded a First Class Honours degree in computer science for games. Looking forward to new opportunities to apply my knowledge and skills in the games industry. #FirstClassHonours #Achievement #UniversityDegree
